Title : Burnout decoded: Ayurveda on stress, sleep, and emotional wellbeing
Abstract:
Burnout is increasingly recognized as a multidimensional condition shaped by chronic stress, emotional overload, and dysregulated physiological responses. Among high-achieving individuals, sociocultural expectations to sustain productivity and composure often reinforce a “push through” mindset, contributing to persistent nervous system activation and diminished resilience. Over time, this dysregulation manifests as sleep disturbances, anxiety, cognitive fatigue, irritability, and hormonal imbalance—symptoms frequently addressed in isolation rather than as interconnected processes. This session presents an integrative framework for understanding burnout through the lens of Ayurveda, a traditional system of medicine that conceptualizes health as a dynamic balance between mind, body, and environment. Drawing on Ayurvedic principles alongside contemporary stress science and nervous system research, the presentation reframes burnout as a systemic imbalance rather than an individual shortcoming. Particular attention is given to the role of circadian rhythms, sensory load, and emotional processing in shaping physiological resilience. Participants will be introduced to accessible, evidence-informed strategies rooted in Ayurvedic practice, including daily rhythm alignment, breath-based regulation, and micro-interventions designed to interrupt chronic stress patterns within modern work environments. The session also includes a brief guided nervous system reset that can be implemented without specialized equipment, offering a practical tool for immediate application. By bridging traditional knowledge systems with modern integrative health perspectives, this presentation contributes to a more holistic understanding of burnout and offers scalable approaches for supporting stress recovery, sleep quality, and emotional regulation across diverse populations.
